Project Accountant - Sheboygan

Donohue & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Project Accountant to join our growing engineering firm. In this position, working with the Project Managers, you will be responsible for the entire project life cycle from the accounting perspective including budget setup, billings, client compliance reporting, and project close-out, plus assist in other accounting functions. Prior work experience in a professional services environment, particularly architectural/engineering consulting, is preferred. The position is located in Donohue’s corporate office in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Assigned duties and requirements are outlined below.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate with project managers and principals regarding invoices, agreements, task orders, amendments, approvals, and other items related to project setup and billing
  • Research client requirements for required billing format, documentation, procedures, and frequency
  • Prepare invoice package for billable projects, including required backup documents
  • Maintain listing and explanations for unbilled charges on projects
  • Submit final client invoices and file internal copies as appropriate
  • Maintain billing folders for all projects with appropriate documents, including signed agreements, expenses, subconsultant invoices, and monthly invoices
  • Set up new projects, track sales, and communicate sales to marketing
  • Weekly posting and report generation of timesheets, expense reports, subconsultant invoice and vehicle logs
  • Provide monthly and year-end support of auditor requirements, which may include research and balance sheet/income statement account reconciling
  • Other assigned accounting and administrative duties


•Associate’s degree in accounting or advanced coursework in
accounting or similar field
•5+ years of billing and receivables experience preferred; experience
in architectural/engineering environment a plus
•Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience in
MS Office products and accounting software
•Thorough knowledge of standard accounting contract terms (i.e.
hourly, lump sums, not-to-exceed) and how they are applied to the
billing process
•Knowledge of the project structure in a client/consultant business
•Ability to work well with others under tight deadline situations and in
response to changes in priorities
•Strong organizational, communication, and verbal skills
•Strict attention to detail and accuracy
•Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see
projects through to completion in a timely manner
