Donohue’s Nathan Cassity and Eric Lynne will be presenting “Oxidation Reduction (ORP) and Alkalinity” at the Activated Sludge BNR Process Control: Hands-On In The Real World (April 1) workshop led by the Water Environment Federation (WEF). This comprehensive workshop is presented by leading practitioners, sharing their experiences in an interactive environment.

The presenters will cover Activated Sludge/BNR basics and then focus on solving the practical design problems that have plagued many systems. Process control parameters, side-stream considerations, and tips for identifying microorganisms and establishing a healthy biomass will all be part of the day’s demonstrations. The format is informal and real-life examples and questions are welcomed. The workshop is being held outdoors at a wastewater treatment plant.

Nathan’s presentation discusses key bioreactor conditions roles for different analyzers while providing examples of conditions and solutions at the Ore-Ida potato plant, which discharges into the Wisconsin River; Sun Prairie, a bedroom community for Madison, WI; and Green Bay’s paper mills. Eric’s presentation covers alkalinity basics to better understand the sources and demands to modify process and potential supplement needs.

Nathan and Eric are senior wastewater engineers and project managers, located in Sheboygan and Minneapolis, respectively. Eric is also Donohue’s Minnesota-area manager.
